Frederick Stone Wintzer

Frederick Stone Wintzer, 85, of Wapakoneta, died 7:25 a.m., Tues. Sept. 23, 2008, at Lima Memorial Health System.� He was born Aug. 19, 1923, in Wapakoneta, the son of Carl Frederick & Edith (Link) Wintzer, who preceded him in death.� On Oct. 1, 1950, he married Mary Alic Spar, and she survives.Other survivors include, 4 sons,� Gustave Spar (Deborah A.) Wintzer, Wapakoneta, Dr. Christopher Link (Elena) Wintzer, Tucson, AZ, Carl Clark (Denise M.) Wintzer, Wapakoneta, W. James (Cynthia) Wintzer, Westerville, OH, 12 grandchildren, Kirsten A. (Andrew) Walters, Kasey C. (Daniel) Allen, Gustave Sean Wintzer, Jennifer, Nicole & Sofia Wintzer, Marcus Edward, Sarah Marie & Julia Ann Wintzer, Katherine Lynne, Douglas James, & Chelsea Ann Wintzer, 2 Great grandchildren, Anja Gloria Walters, & Phoebe Christine Allen, a sister, Alice Jeannette Heckman, Berea, KY, and numerous nieces & nephews.� He was preceded in death by a great grandson, Daniel Allen.Mr. Wintzer retired in 1989 after 46 years as president of G.A. Wintzer & Son Co., Wapakoneta. A 1941 graduate of Blume High School, he also was a 1944 graduate of Mount Union College.� He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during W.W. II in the Pacific Theater as a Lieutenant (j.g.) with the USS Renshaw.�� He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Wapakoneta, and served as chairman of the Finance Committee, Worship Committee, Official Board, Building Commission, and the Board of Trustees of the church.� �In 1965, Mr. Wintzer was granted a U.S. patent for "Bulk Hauling Vehicle Incorporating Barrel Cleaning Mechanism".� These units are in use nationwide.� In 1968, Mr. Wintzer was granted a U.S. patent for "Gas Pressure Tankage Press".� He was elected Councilman-at-Large in 1948, and he was elected Member of the Board of Education of the Wapakoneta City School District in 1955 and 1959.� He was elected President of the Auglaize Co. Regional Planning Commission in 1970, 1971, & 1972. �A charter and 50 year member, he was a past president of the Wapakoneta Country Club, and club champion in 1964.��� In 1966 he was named Citizen of the Year by the Wapakoneta Area Chamber of Commerce, and in 1983 he was given the "Wapakoneta Education Association Friend of Education Award".� He had served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Mount Union College, and as member of the Board of the Fats and Proteins Research Foundation, Inc., which he chaired for a while.� For many years he served as a Chairman of the Board of Bank One, Wapakoneta, as Director of the Auglaize Co. Republican Finance Committee, as a member of the Auglaize Co. Board of Health for 21 years, and as a member of the Auglaize Co. Regional Planning Commission from 1967 to 2001.� He enjoyed tennis, fishing & golf.� He loved Wapakoneta and was a generous contributor to numerous civic causes.� �Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Fri. Sept. 26, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church, Wapakoneta, Pastor R.J. Davis officiating.� Burial is to follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta, where military rites will be conducted by the Wapakoneta V.F.W.� The family will receive friends 2-4 & 6-8 p.m., Thurs. at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta, and 1 hr. prior to the service, Fri. at the church.� Memorial contributions may be directed to the First United Church, or the charity of the donor's choice.����������
