Katherine M. “Kathy” Martens, 85, of Wapakoneta, died 5:29 p.m., Tues. Nov. 21, 2023, at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima. She was born April 29, 1938, in Woodbine, Iowa, the daughter of Guy and Mae (Austin) Emge, who preceded her in death. She was married on April 11, 1960 to her loving husband John Ernest Martens for 34 years until his death on November 9, 1994. Survivors include, children, Pat (Karen) Martens, Perrysburg, OH, Jeanette Martens (Bernard Michael) Perry, Alamogordo, NM, John C. (Robin) Martens, Sarasota, FL, Joshua Lee (Michelle) Geib, Van Wert, OH, Jason Geib, Toldeo, OH; grandchildren, James Patrick Joseph –dec (Jennifer) Martens, Shawn (Missy) Martens, Erin (Holly) Martens, Brian (Leydibell) Martens, Trevor Martens, Kandace Perry, Michael Perry, James Hagaman, Allison Geib, Sebastian Geib, Rebecca (Nick) Perry, John Wayne (Ashley) Martens, Jocee Tenwalde; siblings, Donna Vance, Fremont, NE, Patrick (Janie) Emge, Shenandoah, IA, Dianne Cook, Muskogee, OK; sister-in-law, Connie Emge. And 10 great-grandchildren In addition to her parents and husband John, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Kandy (Martens) Geib, a grandson, James Patrick Joseph Martens, MD, 2 brothers, John Emge, Dennis Emge, and a sister, Jane Lawson. Kathy retired from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., St. Marys, OH, after 30 years of service. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta, where she was a regular participant at the Adoration Chapel. Kathy loved spending time with her family. She also enjoyed bird watching, collecting bird figurines, reading, gardening, cooking, and antiquing with her friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Fri. Dec. 1, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta, with Fr. Sean Wilson officiating. Burial of her cremated remains will be in the Resthaven Memory Gardens, near Moulton, OH. The family will receive friends 9-10 a.m., Fri. Dec. 1, at the Eley Funeral Home & Crematory, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta. A Celebration of Life Luncheon will be held in the St. Joseph Parish Life Center. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, may be directed to St. Joseph Catholic Church or St. Rita’s Hospice.
