Phyllis Joanne Serr

Phyllis Joanne (Finley) Serr, 90, of rural Wapakoneta, passed away Friday morning, August 13, 2021, at Lima Memorial Health System. Phyllis was born in Gutman, Ohio, to the late Mary (Smith) and Franklin Finley on January 13, 1931. Phyllis was a graduate of Wapakoneta Blume High School in 1949. On June 29, 1952, Phyllis was married to Carl Ludwig Serr, who preceded her in death on August 8, 2012. Carl and Phyllis celebrated 60 years of marriage together. Three children were born to this union- Karen (Richard) Hatfield, of Wapakoneta, Connie (Wayne) Schneider of Botkins, and Carl (Mindy) Serr of Coldwater. Phyllis is also survived by seven grandchildren- Chris(Juanita) Hatfield; Allison (Justin) Hatfield; Ryan (Kara) Schneider; Shawn (Andrea) Schneider; Jackson, Leah, and Lance Serr. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren- Makenzie, Lydia, Kelsey, Benjamin and Andrew Schneider. Phyllis Serr was blessed with many special nieces, nephews, and many great-nieces and nephews. One grandson, Nathaniel Scott Hatfield, preceded her in death, as well as a daughter-in-law Megan (Peachey) Serr. Phyllis was also preceded in death by two of her four siblings- Peggy Jane Finley and Jim (Elaine) Finley. Her sisters Mary Ann Finley and Bonnie (Roger) Wilson survive. Phyllis was a devoted Christian, and a lifelong faithful servant of Christ. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Botkins. Phyllis loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved working outside in her flower gardens. Her constant beloved companion was her dog, Chico. Phyllis was a founding member of FISH (Friends In Service to Humanity) serving on the board of directors for many years. She was a volunteer at FISH for more than 38 years. Phyllis loved serving others. The family will receive family and friends from 4:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at Eley Funeral Home and Crematory, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta. Funeral services in honor of Phyllis Serr will be held on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Botkins at 11:00 AM with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Charla Grieves will be officiating the celebration of Phyllis Serr’s life. Burial will follow in Loramie Valley Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Carl and Phyllis Serr Family Scholarship or to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Botkins. May we all run the race of faith that we may look forward to a joyous reunion in Heaven with our Lord Jesus Christ and His faithful servant Phyllis.
