Daniel Franklin Dietz

Daniel F. Dietz, 85, of Wapakoneta, died 3:15 p.m.;, Sat. Sept. 28, 2024, at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima. He was born March 2, 1939, in Botkins, OH, the son of the late Alfred & Esther (Grodey) Dietz. On Oct. 17, 1959, he married Lois J. Kill, and she preceded him in death on April 5, 2020. Survivors include, 2 children, Frank (Jeannie) Dietz, Lakeview, OH, Norma (Gary) Rower, Lima, OH; 5 grandchildren, Alycia (Steve) Music, Amber (Travis) Holtzapple, Amanda (Craig) Berger, Kate (Eric) Giddens, Adam (Katie) Kriegel; granddaughter-in-law, Chanzie Dietz; great grandchildren, Madilynn and Allyson Dietz, Damion and Ryan Music, Kaden and Ava Holtzapple, Owen Gierhart, Braelyn and Brandon Berger, Anna and Penelope Kriegel, Thomas and Siena Giddens; sisters, Martha (Oscar) Etgen, Elaine (Richard-dec) Schick, Ruth Behr; sisters-in-law, Shirley Block, Evelyn Kohler, Irma Kill, and Hazel Kill; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Lucas Dietz, a brother, William “Bill” Dietz, a sister, Alice (Joseph-dec) Behr, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and spouses, Delores (Bob) Schetter, Marvin Kohler, Velma (Harry) Hoersten, Howard Kill, Frank(Helen) Kill, Charles (Bonnie) Kill, Fred Kill, Agnes Edna Kill, and an infant sister-in-law. Dan retired from Moulton Electric, Wapakoneta after 37 years of service. After retirement, he worked as broadcast engineer with several local radio stations and a weather observer. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta, and a member of the K of C, Council #1272. He was also a 1957 graduate of Botkins Local High. Dan hosted the “Polka Party Time” radio show, and called bingo at St. Joseph. Dan and Lois enjoyed polka dancing, and playing pinochle with Fred and Mary Ellen Miller. Dan also enjoyed fishing, and watching the Cincinnati Reds. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Wed. Oct. 2, 2024, at St. John Catholic Church, Fryburg, with Rev. Jerry Schetter officiating. Burial is to follow in the St. John Cemetery, Fryburg. The family will receive friends 2-4 & 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 1, and 9-10 a.m., Wed. at the Eley Funeral Home & Crematory, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta.
