Howard L. "Howdy" Brandehoff

Howard L. “Howdy” Brandehoff, 89, of Wapakoneta, died 11:05 a.m., Sat. April 29, 2023, at Odem at Auglaize, with his family at his side. He was born Nov. 28, 1933, in Ottoville, OH, the son of the late Laverne & Gladys (Wreede) Brandehoff. On Nov. 7, 1964, he married Marilyn K. Smith, and she survives. Other survivors include, 4 children, Vickie (Lloyd-dec) Boyd, Murrells Inlet, SC, Yvonne Shaffer, Wapakoneta, Julie Messer, Botkins, OH, Wendy (Brian) Schoonover, Wapakoneta; grandchildren, Shawn (Melissa) Boyd, Shane (Melissa) Boyd, Dylan Shaffer, Macey Shaffer, Dr. Mercedes (Daniel) Cook, Maverick (Brianna-fiancée) Long, Logan (Drew) Miracle, Alexis Jacobs; 2 step-grandchildren, Nick Schoonover, Cassie Schoonover; great grandchildren, Jordan Boyd, Trevor Boyd, Matthew Boyd, Alexia Boyd, Aspen Boyd, Axell McGue, Jettlyn McGue, Emmett Long; great great granddaughter, Grace Boyd; brothers, Robert (Annalee) Brandehoff, Donald (Patricia) Brandehoff; sister-in-law, Karen Brandehoff. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Marvin Brandehoff, Paul (Mary) Brandehoff, infant John Richard Brandehoff, and infant Donna Jean Brandehoff. Howdy retired as a metal fabricator and foreman from Superior Tube Co., Wapakoneta. He also worked at Sidney Tool and Die, and owned and operated H.L.B. Associates. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie #691, both of Wapakoneta. He was also a former member of the St. Johns Fire Dept. Howdy was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards, fishing, farming, tinkering in his garage, and taking John Deere tractor rides with the grandkids. Howdy was known for being able to fix anything and was an avid bowler and horseshoe player. He also enjoyed watching the NBA, especially the Los Angeles Lakers. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Fri. May 5, 2023, at the Eley Funeral Home & Crematory, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta, with Pastor Mark Bishop officiating. Burial is to follow in the Resthaven Memory Gardens, where military rites will be conducted by the Wapakoneta V.F.W. Post #8445. The family will receive friends 4-8 p.m., Thurs. and 1 hour prior to the service, Fri. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
