Jack L. Evans

Jack L. Evans, 70, of Wapakoneta, died 1:45 a.m., Mon. May 17, 2010, at his residence. He was born Aug. 17, 1939, in Wapakoneta, OH, the son of John Carlyle & Bernita (Knoch) Evans, who preceded him in death. On March 31, 1984, he married Sue Graf, and she survives in Wapakoneta. Other survivors include, a son, Robert (Lisa) Evans, Elberta, AL, 4 daughters, Jackie Evans, Summerdale, AL, Nancy (Lionel) Cabbarubia, Foley, AL, Betsy Evans, Foley, AL, Jeanie Clevenger, Wapakoneta, 2 step-daughters, Tamela (Steve) Nuesmeyer, Wapakoneta, Natasha (Scott) Hengstler, Wapakoneta, 7 grandchildren, Bradley (Jenny) Evans, Mallorie Evans, Nicole Cabarrubia, Jamie Cabarrubia, Alexander Cabarrubia, Daniel Eastburn, Savanah Brannon, all of AL, 4 step-grandchildren, Cindy Jurosic, Heather Wells, Christopher Wells, Kelly Wells, all of Wapakoneta, a brother, James (Jenny) Evans, Washington Court House, OH, 3 sisters, Diane Talbot, Clarington, OH, Connie Burgess, Wapakoneta, Patti (Don) Shroyer, Wapakoneta, a sister-in-law, Sandi Evans, Wapakoneta. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Brandon Evans, a sister, Janet Sanders, 3 brothers, Tom, Donald, and Jerry Evans. Jack retired from British Petroleum, Lima, in 1995, as a supervisor in the chemical division. He served in the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Army, and the Army National Guard, and served as a boy scout leader for 8 years in Alabama. He was also the founder and owner of the Auglaize Antique Mall. A member of First United Methodist Church, Wapakoneta, he was a life member and past commander of the Alvin Metzger Post, VFW, #8445, and a charter member of the Amvets, Post #333, both of Wapakoneta. His other memberships included the American Legion Post #330 and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie #691, the Roots and Shoots Garden Club, all of Wapakoneta, the Ohio Snowbirds of Alabama, and the Buckeye Farm Antiques, Inc. He served on the board of directors with the Wapakoneta Chamber of Commerce from 1992-1995, and received the Ambassador Award in 1993 from the City of Wapakoneta. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thur. May 20, 2010, at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta, Pastor R.J. Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta, where military rites will be conducted by the Wapakoneta V.F.W. The family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m., Wed. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the St. Rita’s Hospice.
