John Alan Nester

John A. Nester, 79, of Wapakoneta, died 7:41 p.m., Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima, with his loving family at his side. He was born July 23, 1945, in Lima, the son of Harold Joseph and Mary Ellen (Weiher) Nester, who preceded him in death. On May 6, 1978, he married Nancy J. Scott, and she survives. Other survivors include, daughter, Jamie M. (Justin) Stahler, Avon, OH; grandson, Mason J. Stahler; siblings, Sylvia (Richard) Woerz, Maineville, OH, Linda Nester, Wapakoneta, Judie Gale, Wapakoneta, Julie (Brad) Purdy, Snohomish, WA; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dennis Schumaker, Wellington, OH, Joan (John) McHugh, Monclova, OH, Larry Scott, St. Marys, OH, Tom (Joyce) Scott, St. Marys, Carol (Barney) Klosterman, St. Marys, Mary Ann (Bob) Laughlin, Celina, OH, Sharon Burden, Wapakoneta, Allen (Lu Anne) Scott, Wapakoneta, Lee Scott, Wapakoneta, Sue Scott, Wapakoneta. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Gary Nester, Kevin Nester, and Carol Schumaker. He was also preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mary and Walter Scott, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Tom Gale, Dee Scott, Alice Clayton, and Jerry Burden, and his grandmother, Monica Weiher. John retired May 8, 1998, as a patrolman with the Wapakoneta City Police Dept., where he began his career February 2, 1970. In 1998, he joined the Wapakoneta Police Auxiliary and was a volunteer until 2012. A 1964 graduate of St. Jospeh High School, John was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie #691, and the K of C, Council #1272, all of Wapakoneta. He coached Little League baseball, and in his younger years played slo-pitch softball and was an avid swimmer. He was a huge fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 21, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta, with Fr. Sean Wilson officiating. Burial is to follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery, Wapakoneta. The family will receive friends 4-8 p.m., Friday, June 20, and 9-9:45 a.m., Saturday, at the Eley Funeral Home and Crematory, St. Rt., 501, Wapakoneta.
