Mabel M. Roode

Mabel M. Roode, 97, of Botkins, OH, died 5:40 a.m., Fri. March 5, 2010, at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima. She was born Feb. 25, 1913, in Jackson Twp., Shelby Co., the daughter of William F. & Mary E. (Wildermuth) Regula, who preceded her in death. On Jan. 26, 1933, she married Ernest Roode, and he died Nov. 15, 1972. Survivors include, 2 children, Melvin “Mel” (Terry) Roode, Botkins, Evelyn “Tootie” (Richard) Alexander, Jackson Center, OH, 4 grandchildren, Darcy Steinke, Wapakoneta, Darin Alexander, Anna, Steve (Jill) Roode, Matt (Mae) Steinke, both of Wapakoneta, 6 great grandchildren, Stephanie Steinke, Lima, Austin Steinke, Wapakoneta, Heidi & Zeek Alexander, both of Anna, Maeson & Hunter Roode, both of Wapakoneta, 2 sisters, Helen Wells, Anna, Evelyn (Dale) Mann, Las Vegas, NV, a sister-in-law, Ruth Regula, Jackson Center. She was preceded in death by a great grandson, Brandon Steinke, 2 sisters, Wilma Zwiebel & Dorothy Metz, and 2 brothers, Harold & Orville Regula. Mabel retired from Millers Laundry and Dry Cleaning, Wapakoneta, after 30 years service. She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Clay Twp., Auglaize Co. After marriage, she enjoyed going out on Saturday nights with her husband, who played fiddle, bass fiddle, and bango for round and square dancing. She enjoyed spending time with her family, adored her grandchildren, as well as her great grandchildren. Mabel, along with her sister Dorothy would visit relatives and friends at area nursing homes monthly. She especially enjoyed going to Auglaize Acres with the church group to play bingo. She also enjoyed going camping at the tractor shows in various locations, where she met many friends. Her later days of enjoyment (until sickness) were eating out and playing cards with her nephew Bub, wife Janet and friend Jeri on Monday nights at Meyer’s, Botkins. Her family and friends celebrated her 97th birthday on Feb. 25, at the Wapakoneta Manor. She enjoyed receiving cards through the mail and this time especially, she received 57 cards which were placed on the wall at the Manor for her to enjoy. She was a very special and loveable person. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Mon. March 8, 2010, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Clay Twp., Pastor William Barrett officiating. Burial is to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-6 p.m., Sun. at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta, and 1 hr. prior to the service Mon. at the church. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.
