Marjorie A. Settlemire

Marjorie A. Settlemire, 92, of Wapakoneta, passed away 4:27 p.m., Mon. Sept. 9, 2014, at the Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys. She was born January 18, 1922, in Randolph County, IN, the daughter of Ora & Goldie (Davis) Alexander, who preceded her in death. When she was a young Hoosier lady, Marjorie met her future husband during W.W. II. On Feb. 24, 1943, she married William F. Settlemire in Covington, KY, before he left for the military. He passed away Nov. 10, 2007. She is survived by 4 children, Steve M. (Pat) Settlemire, Lima, William Jr. (Pam) Settlemire, Wapakoneta, Kathy D. (Herb) Meeker, Miami, FL, and Suzie K. White & Doug, Wapakoneta. Other survivors include 9 grandchildren, Brandon Settlemire, & Brittney (James) Haynes, both of Lima; Mike (Margarita) Meeker, Jeff (Annie) Meeker, and Karen (Harold) White, all of Miami, FL; Nathan (Candice) Settlemire, Columbus; Joshua White & Christine, Denver, CO; Benjamin White & Jennifer, Tucson, AZ; and Emily White & Joel, Seattle, WA. Also surviving are 13 great grandchildren, Emma, Carter, and Gracie Haynes; Lexie, Rachel, and Matthew White; Allen, Kevin and Katherine Meeker; Aden and Owen Settlemire; and Emma and Lukas Meeker. She was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Pauline Locker, Mary Sommers, and Eathel Wallick, a brother, Noble Alexander, and a stillborn brother, Johnny Alexander. Marjorie and her husband owned and operated the Meadowlake Dairy Farm for nearly 50 years. She helped with the war effort by working at the Lima Ordinance Depot during W.W. II. She had also been a Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed “enjoyed living off the land” and was a wonderful cook, when in season using her own garden vegetables and fruits from the orchard. Margie liked to work in her flower gardens as well as bird watching, especially cardinals. She was passionate about reading, to the extent of having of a library within her home. She enjoyed completing crossword puzzles and in her quiet and soft spoken manner, she always thought of others before herself. She enjoyed and cherished moments spent with her grandkids and was a very loving and humble person who will be greatly missed by her family. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Sat. Sept. 13, 2014, at the Wapakoneta Community Worship Center, Pastor Dan Holbrook officiating. Burial is to follow in the Fairmount Cemetery, near Uniopolis. The family will receive friends 4-6 p.m., Fri. at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, Wapakoneta, and 1 hr. prior to the service, Sat. at the church. Memorial contributions may be directed to the St. Johns Fire Dept. and Rescue Squad.
