Mary Alice Wintzer

Mary Alice Wintzer, 83, of Wapakoneta, died Thurs. Nov. 11, 2010, at her residence. She was born Feb. 18, 1927, in Ada, OH, the daughter of Jesse Roy and Caroline M. (Clark) Spar, who preceded her in death. On Nov. 1, 1950, she married Frederick Stone Wintzer, who died Sept. 23, 2008. Survivors include, 4 sons, Gustave Spar (Deborah A.) Wintzer, Wapakoneta, Dr. Christopher Link (Elena) Wintzer, Tucson, AZ, Carl Clark (Denise M.) Wintzer, Wapakoneta, W. James (Cynthia) Wintzer, Westerville, OH, 12 grandchildren, Kirsten A. (Andrew) Walters, Kasey C. (Daniel) Allen, Gustave Sean Wintzer, Jennifer, Nicole & Sofia Wintzer, Marcus Edward (Lauren), Sarah Marie & Julia Ann Wintzer, Katherine Lynne, Douglas James, & Chelsea Ann Wintzer, 3 great grandchildren, Anja Gloria Walters, Phoebe Christine Allen, & Hank Wintzer Walters, 2 sisters, Zona Wyss, & Beulah Hays, both of Ada, OH. She was preceded in death by a great grandson, Daniel Allen, a brother, Floyd Spar, and a sister, Helen Ludwig. A homemaker, Mary Alice worked as a music teacher with the Wapakoneta City Schools. The last two years, she served on the Board of Directors of G.A. Wintzer & Son Co. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music from Ohio Northern University. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Wapakoneta, where she served as the adult choir director from 1965 to 1995, and was a member of its Hannah Unit. She was also a member of the Helen Hunt Club, Wapakoneta. A charter member of the Wapakoneta Country Club, and she was presently serving on the Board of Directors and had been club champion 9 times. She loved musicals and playing the piano. She enjoyed traveling with her husband Fred, and doing needlepoint. She and her husband established the Music Lab at the Ohio Northern University Library. She loved to entertain family, friends, and clubs at the “Log Cabin” at Grand Lake, St. Marys, OH. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Mon. Nov. 15, 2010, at First United Methodist Church, Wapakoneta, Pastor R.J. Davis officiating. Burial is to follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta. The family will receive friends 3-8 p.m., Sun. at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, Wapakoneta, and 1 hr. prior to the service, Mon. at the church. Memorial contributions may be directed to First United Methodist Church.
