Melvin E. "Mel" Behr

Melvin E. “Mel” Behr, 71, of Wapakoneta, died 1:03 p.m., Fri. Feb. 16, 2024, at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima, following a sudden illness. He was born Oct. 7, 1952, in Lima, OH, the son of the Wilbur & Rita (Greve) Behr, who preceded him in death. On Aug. 25, 1973, he married Linda S. Bergman and she survives. Other survivors include, 5 children, Brian (Charity) Behr, Wapakoneta, Scott Behr, Tampa, FL, Jay Behr, Wapakoneta, Andy (Stephanie) Behr, Cincinnati, OH, Cindy (Chris) Sneary, Wapakoneta; 10 grandchildren & 1 great granddaughter, Kayla (Zac) Mussellman & their daughter, Natalee, Trevor Behr, Kylie Behr, Kaitlin Behr, Jack Behr, Lillian Behr, Annabelle Behr, Briannna Sneary, Audrey Sneary, Maverick Sneary; siblings, Donna (Dennis) Steinke, Eugene “Yogi” Behr, Jerry (fiancée, Patricia) Behr, Carol (Dan) Hemmert, Norman (Kim) Behr, Nelson Behr, Denny (Karen) Behr; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Diane (Joe) Pohlman, Betty-dec (Joe) Mescher, Mary Moeller and special friend Mike, Tom (Mary) Bergman, Jeanne (Tom) Boerger, Nick Bergman, Ron (Jeanie) Bergman, John (Janet) Bergman, Elaine (Steve) Luthman; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces & great nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother and sisters-in-law, Virgil (Patricia) Behr, Jewel Behr, and a step-mother, Beatrice Everhart Behr. Mel retired from the Ford Motor Co., Lima Engine Plant after 31 years of service. He was a graduate of Wapakoneta High School Class of 1971 and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church, Fryburg, and participated in activities at the Auglaize Co. Council on Aging. Mel enjoyed camping, tinkering in his garage, and in younger years enjoyed hunting. He most enjoyed spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s activities and sporting events. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Thurs. Feb. 22, 2024, at the St. John Catholic Church, Fryburg, with Fr. Sean Wilson officiating. Burial is to follow in the St. John Cemetery, Fryburg, where military rites will be conducted by the Wapakoneta V.F.W. Post #8445. The family will receive friends 2-8 p.m., Wed. Feb. 21, and 9-9:45 a.m., Thurs. at the Eley funeral Home & Crematory, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Auglaize Co. Council on Aging.
