Michael C. Schlenker, 67, of Wapakoneta, died 9:18 a.m., Fri. June 2, 2017 after 19 days of battle in the ICU at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN. He was born June 23, 1949, in Lima, OH, the son of John H. & Evon (Knatz) Schlenker who preceded him in death. On March 20, 1982, he married Joyce (Kentner) Schlenker, who preceded him in death on May 14, 2017. Survivors include, 4 children, Heather Lee Nolte, Wapakoneta Matthew Christian (Missy) Schlenker, Olympia, WA, Leanne Elizabeth (Chris) Moninger, Wooster, OH, Courtney Danielle Schlenker, Orlando, FL, 7 grandchildren, Allison and Emma Nolte, Fritz and Molly Schlenker, Colin, Haakon, and Maren Moninger, siblings, Peggy (Jack) Prater, John (Jean) Schlenker, Philip (Diane) Schlenker, siblings-in-law, Joann (Larry) Jauert, San Diego, CA, Ruth Doering, Wapakoneta, Barbara (Max) Place, Wapakoneta, Vonnie Ruese, Fairfax, VA, Dean (Donna) Kentner, Wapakoneta, James Sawmiller, Wapakoneta, numerous nieces & nephews. first marriage, Janet Hansen Schlenker Michael and his wife, Joyce, were in a tragic car accident on Mother’s Day, May 14, 2017, which took Joyce’s life. Michael was a 1967 graduate of Wapakoneta High School and a 1971 graduate of Bowling Green State University. He recently retired from working as a civilian contractor for the United States Air Force and also worked much of his career at Crown Equipment. He previously was a part owner of Coast to Coast Hardware and Mandy’s Cafe in Wapakoneta. He loved flying and everything about airplanes, woodworking, stained glass, but his favorite thing to do was to spend time with family and his best friend and wife, Joyce. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thurs. June 8, 2017, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moulton, OH, with Pastor Roger Phillips officiating. Burial will be in the Resthaven Memory Gardens, near Moulton. The family will receive friends 2-8 p.m., Wed. June 7, at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, 1102 Lincoln Ave.,(St. Rt. 501) Wapakoneta, and 1 hr. prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Memorial contributions may be directed to the charitable foundation, Mad Anthony’s Children’s Hope House. This foundation gave the family a place to stay during Mike’s time at the ICU in Fort Wayne.
