Robert Rudell "Bob" Bennett

Robert Rudell “Bob” Bennett, age 75, of Wapakoneta, OH went to his heavenly home on October 10, 2011. He died at the Wapakoneta Manor after an extended illness. He was born July 31, 1936, the eldest son of the late Everett Rudell Bennett and Florence Edna Henry Bennett, in Indiana County near Gipsy, PA. He was a 1954 graduate of Union City Joint High School, Union City, PA, a graduate of General Electric Machinist Course, Erie, PA in 1959 and attended Wright State University. He married Fern Carpenter July 21, 1956 and lived most of his married life in Darke County moving to Wapakoneta in 2009. His life’s career was in supervision and management in manufacturing retiring in 2001 from Dayton-Phoenix Group, Dayton, OH as manufacturing engineer supervisor. Robert loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and was always active in his church. He was a gifted Sunday School teacher and enjoyed teaching for over 45 years. He served on church boards and was a board secretary and a church trustee many years. He was a member of the Wapakoneta Church of the Nazarene, Gideons International, North American Die Cast Association, Southern OH Chapter # 14 and had served as its chairman and secretary. Robert enjoyed Bible teaching, family, camping, hunting, fishing, gardening and fixing things others would throw away. Survivors include his wife, Fern; daughters, Susan (Kevin) Ulis, Wapakoneta, OH, Sharon (Bradley) Kimmy, Corry, PA, Sheryl (Stewart) VanDine, Greensboro, NC; grandchildren, Robert (Angel) Ulis, Kelley and Karen Ulis, Adrienne Kimmy, Melissa (Zachary) Salazar, Brittany Miller, Joshua and Shirley VanDine; one great- granddaughter, Grace Ulis; brothers H. Levert (Martha) Bennett, New Castle, WA, H. Lyman (Charlotte) Bennett, Mexico, NY, Jack A. (Sandra) Bennett, Union City, PA and Maurice A. (Sonia) Bennett, Youngsville, PA. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Stephanie Kimmy. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 13, 2011, at the Church of the Nazarene, Court & Benton Streets, Wapakoneta, with Rev. Philip Cook and Rev. Lowell Miller, friends of Mr. Bennett, officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta. Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m., Wed. Oct. 12, at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, 1102 Lincoln Ave. (St. Rt. 501) Wapakoneta, and 1 hr. prior to the service, Thurs. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wapakoneta Church of the Nazarene or to the Gideon’s International in tribute to Mr. Bennett’s lifelong joy of serving the Lord and teaching His Word.
