Robert C. Longsworth

Robert Calvin Longsworth age 88 passed away from this life at 6:44, Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at the Gardens of Wapakoneta surrounded by his loving family. Robert was born in Auglaize County in Moulton Township on October 23, 1924, the son of Lloyd and Esther (Badertscher) Longworth who preceded him in death. He married Bernice J. Nuss on April 9, 1947. She died August 5, 2006. His son Larry R. Longsworth preceded him in death. Brothers Bus Longworth, James Longworth and sister Mary Chiles preceded him in death. Robert was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather. He was a 1943 graduate of Blume High School. He was also a machinist at Minster Machine in Minster, Ohio and later Industrial Equipment/Midmark in Versailles, Ohio. Robert was recognized many times for the suggestions he made to IE/Midmark for the betterment of the company. He was a member of United Church of Christ in St. Mary’s, Ohio. He volunteered his time and talent by making wooden keepsake boxes for all of the children being baptized into the church. Bob was always willing to help others and was never too busy to listen. Bob was a scout leader for troop 199, while his sons, Dennis and Larry were in the boy scouts. Robert’s avocation was his wood working and metal lathing skills. He enjoyed building small gasoline powered engines in his basement workshop where he made family heirlooms. He was a master craftsman. Bob also enjoyed photography and developing his own film. He is survived by his sons Dennis (Gayla) Longsworth, Gary (Paula) Longsworth, daughter in law Janice Longsworth, and grandchildren Gabriel Longsworth, Aaron (Alicia) Longsworth, Missy (Casey) Longsworth-Crisp, Derek Longsworth. Step Grandchildren are David (Amanda), Daniel (Christie) Moore, Dean (Megan) Moore, and Misty (Brian) Hisle. Great grandchildren are Alden Longsworth and Allison Longsworth, Alex Longsworth and Zachary Longsworth. Step great grandchildren are Tanner Catron, Hannah Hisle, Dakota Hisle, Dillan Moore, Dawson Moore, and Dax Moore. Sister Alice (Kenneth) Lynn. Sister in laws Dorothy Nuss and Naomi Longworth. Brother in law Melvin Nuss. The memorial service of Thanksgiving and celebration will be at 3:00, October 25, 2012 at Bayliff and Eley Funeral Home, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta. Pastor Joy Miller and Rev. Ed Bray are officiating. Calling hours will be 1-3, Thursday. Interment will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Rita’s Hospice or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
