Robert Schaub

Robert C. “Bob” Schaub, 92, of Wapakoneta, died 8:06 a.m., Fri. Oct. 15, 2010, at Otterbein-St. Marys. He was born March 13, 1918, in Wapakoneta, in the home he has lived in, the son of Fred & Lura (Fisher) Schaub, who preceded him in death. On June 7, 1941, he married Dorothea “Dot” Fett, and she died March 14, 2009. Survivors include, 3 children, Mary Kay Schaub, Colorado Springs, CO, Lisa (Larry) Fahncke, Wapakoneta, Mark (Josie) Schaub, Wapakoneta, 5 grandchildren, Sarah (Bryon) Stechman, Wapakoneta, Danielle Meier, Troy, OH, Amelia, Kaleb, & Lillian Schaub, all of Wapakoneta, a great greandson, Logan Stechman. He was preceded in death by a sister & brother-in-law, Margaret & Herman Haynes. Bob was self-employed and worked in wholesale lumber, fertilizer, real estate businesses. He also managed the family farms. A 1936 graduate of Blume High School, he was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Wapakoneta. He was a U.S. Army veteran and received the Purple Heart while serving in the European Theater during W.W. II. He held life memberships in the V.F.W. Post #8445, the American Legion, Post #330, and the former Elks #1170, all of Wapakoneta. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie #691, Wapakoneta, and the Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity. He was a charter member of the W.W. II Veterans Memorial Museum. He loved to tinker, and his hobbies and interests included music, dancing, hunting, fishing, flying his own airplane, automobiles, tournament bridge, and the outdoors. He especially enjoyed spending time with his wife Dot and his family. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Mon. Oct. 18, 2010, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Wapakoneta, Pastor Mark Bauer officiating. Burial of his cremated remains will be later in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta. The family will receive friends 2-5 p.m., Sun. at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta, and 1 hr. prior to the service, Mon. at the church. Military rites will be conducted by the Wapakoneta V.F.W. at the church following the services. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Auglaize Co. Council on Aging or St. Rita’s Medical Center Home Health Care.
