Thomas J. "Red" Manger

Thomas J. “Red” Manger, 83, of Wapakoneta, died 7:48 a.m., Mon. Dec. 26, 2022, at his home with his family at his side. He was born March 29, 1939, in Wapakoneta, the son of the late Paul M. and Kathryn L. (McFarland) Manger. On Feb. 27, 1960, he married Carol S. (Braun) Manger and she survives. Other survivors include, 3 children, Christine “Tina” (Paul) Mallory, Wapakoneta, Sandra (Lonnie) John, Buckland, Matthew (Kelly) Manger, Clarkston, MI; 7 grandchildren, Colleen (Audi) Scarpella, Justin (Laura) Mallory, Aubrey Cathleen, Michael (Alicia) John, Sarah John, Samantha (Mitch) Poyer, Madeleine Manger; 4 great grandchildren, Jessica Scarpella, Josie Scarpella, Landon Hance, Lyra John; a sister-in-law, Kay Walter Manger, Wapakoneta; numerous nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings and their spouses, Paul R. Manger, Patricia (Robert) Pickering, and Louise (Marvin) Fisher along with his sister-in-law, Pam Braun. Red retired as data processing supervisor from the Leroi Division of Dresser Industries, Sidney. He served as caretaker and secretary-treasurer of the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery Association for over 27 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. Red was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta. He was a member and past Grand Knight of the K of C Council #1272, and member of the Holy Name Society, both of Wapakoneta. He was also a Fourth Degree Knight of the St. Gaspar del Bufalo General Assembly, Minster, OH. Red enjoyed playing cards, traveling, and in his younger years, enjoyed playing slo-pitch softball in the Wapakoneta city league. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Wed. Jan. 4, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta, with Rev. Sean Wilson officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Wapakoneta V.F.W. Post 8445 following services at the church. Burial will be at a later date at the St. Joseph Cemetery, Wapakoneta. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m., Tues. Jan.3 and 9-10 a.m., Wed. Jan. 4, at the Eley Funeral Home & Crematory, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta. Memorials may be directed to the St. Joe School Renovation or St. Rita’s Hospice.
