Charles Leo "Charlie" Zink

Charles L. “Charlie” Zink, 87, of Wapakoneta, died 8:30 p.m., Wed. April 13, 2022, at Mercy Health- St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima. He was born Aug. 22, 1934, in Wapakoneta, the son of the late Cletus C. & Rosemary Ann (McFarland) Zink. On June 29, 1984, he married Lucia “Lucy” Vasquez Metz, and she survives. Other survivors include, 4 children, Charles “Scott” Zink, Eureka, CA, Michael (Lori) Zink, Uniontown, OH, Nicholas Zink, Lima, OH, Brigitta (Trent) Hogan, Wapakoneta; 3 step-children, Roberta (Patrick) Bernard, Cincinnati, OH, Phillip (Kim) Metz, Wapakoneta, Michael Metz, Columbus, OH; 6 grandchildren, Lindsay (Doug) Hassenauer, Cole Hogan, Reece Hogan, Bryce Hogan, Joshua Zink, Jonathon “Jack” Zink, 2 step-grandchildren, Connor (Emily) Metz, Keaton Metz, a great grandson, Asher Hassenauer, 2 step-great grandsons, Lucas Metz, Landan Metz, 3 sisters, Barbara Ann (Lester-dec) Cotterman, Mary Virginia Bradford, Linda Marie Black, all of Wapakoneta, numerous nieces & nephews. Charlie retired in 1994 from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., St. Marys, after 40 years of service. A 1953 graduate of St. Joseph High School, Wapakoneta, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. Charlie was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta. His other memberships included the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie #691, the K of C, Council # 1272, and the former Holy Name Society, all of Wapakoneta. He enjoyed traveling, playing cards, gardening, working in his yard, and woodworking. Charlie was also an avid fan of the Wapakoneta High School Redskins, and The Ohio State University Buckeyes. The family would like to thank the family, friends, caregivers, and medical professionals for their care and compassion during the latter years of Charlie’s life. A special thanks to the 5K staff at St. Rita’s as well. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Fri. April 22, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta, with Fr. Sean Wilson officiating. Burial is to follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta, where military rites will be conducted by the Wapakoneta V.F.W. Post #8445. The family will receive friends 2-4 & 5-8 p.m., Thurs. and 9-9:45 a.m., Fri. at the Eley Funeral Home & Crematory, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta.
