Dan Frederick Howe

January 2, 1954 - December 31, 2021

Dan F. Howe, 67, of Wapakoneta, died 11:38 a.m., Fri. Dec. 31, 2021, at Mercy Health- St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima, OH. He was born Jan. 2, 1954, in Lima, OH, the son of Frederick & Mary (Weber) Howe, who preceded him in death. Survivors include, a sister, Ann (Michael) Loy, Botkins, a nephew, Ryan (Krystal) Loy, Botkins, a great niece and nephew, Madison & Noah Loy, A 1972 graduate of Wapakoneta High School, Dan graduated in 1976 from The Ohio State University with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Education with majors in Spanish and Speech Communication. Then in 1982, he graduated from the University of Dayton with a Masters of Science Degree in Education Supervision. In 1994, he attended the University of Northern Iowa’s Summer Institute in Soria, Spain; and in the summer of 1995, he attended the Indian University Honors Program in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. He taught high school Spanish, retiring in 2012 after 35 years of teaching, the past 32 years at Lima Shawnee High School. During this time, Dan hosted his students on several trips to Mexico and Spain. In 2012, he received The Educator of the Year Award from the Shawnee Noon Optimist Club. In the summers of 1980 and 1981, he worked in South America with the Youth for Understanding exchange student organization conducting staff training and student orientation sessions in Paraguay, Uruguay, Argentina, Venezuela, and Columbia. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Wapakoneta, The Ohio State University Alumni Association, and a past member of The Lima Torch Club and The Lima International Club. He loved to travel, attend Broadway Theater, The Ohio State University sports, and all types of music. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. In keeping with Dan’s request, there will be no visitation and his cremated remains will be interred at a later date in Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to St. Paul United Church of Christ, Wapakoneta, or to The Auglaize County Humane Society. Arrangements are under the care of the Eley Funeral Home & Crematory, Wapakoneta.
