July 6, 1921 - May 10, 2021
Mary Agnes Oen, 99, of Wapakoneta, passed away on Monday, May 10, 2021 at The Gardens of Wapakoneta. Mary was born July 6, 1921 to Frank and Wilhelmina (Fisher) Oen on the family farm on Southland Road in Shelby County. She was preceded in death by brothers Leonard Oen, Richard Oen, Marvin Oen, Wilbur Oen, and Leo Oen; and sisters Alodia Brown, Sr. Ruth Oen, Sr. Dolorosa Oen, Dorothy Greve and Kathryn Dorsten. Although never married or had children of her own, Mary took to showering her numerous nieces and nephews with lots of love and attention. In 1939, Mary entered the Precious Blood Convent at Dayton and left in 1954. She worked at various places in Wapak including Browns Dairy, Dinner Bell Restaurant, Erb’s Chicken, Fishers Cheese and lastly at the Chalet Inn for 17 years. Mary was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta. Mary was an avid fisherman in her day taking day trips with family to the many local ponds and lakes in the area. Her love of genealogy kept her busy updating the Oen/Fisher Family Trees. Oen family reunions were always a good time with lots of laughter and storytelling going. During these reunions, Mary was always full of spirit and telling jokes. Mary was well known for her expertise in making homemade noodles, which were always in high demand by family during the holidays. Bingo on the Fourth of July at St. Joseph Festival with her cousin Anna Marie was her highlight of the summer, that, and chicken dinners. Mary attributed her longevity to her Roman Catholic faith and a lifetime of hard work. The family would like to especially thank the nurses/staff at the Gardens at Wapakoneta, St. Rita’s Hospice and Dr. Parmie Herman. Memorial contribution can be directed to St. Vincent DePaul, God’s Storehouse, The Gardens of Wapakoneta Activity Fund or donor’s choice.
