Viola G. Koenig, 87, of Troy, Ohio, (formerly of Sun City, AZ, and Wapakoneta), died at 1:49 a.m., on Sat. Jan. 8, 2022, at StoryPoint Senior Living. She was born on Nov. 7, 1934, in Auglaize Co., the daughter of the late William C. & Katherine (Frankenburg) Koenig. Survivors include a sister, Sr. Dorothy Koenig, Dayton, OH, a brother, Paul (Kathleen) Koenig, Wapakoneta, and her four-legged friend, Twink. She was preceded in death by brothers, sisters, and in-laws: William (Lucille) Koenig, Adrian (Marie) Koenig, Omer (Delores) Koenig, Bernard (Patricia) Koenig, Virgil (Sharon) Koenig, Julian Koenig, infants Cyril & Angela Koenig, and Sister Gemma Koenig. Viola graduated in 1953 from St. Joseph High School. She continued her education with a Bachelor's degree in Home Economics from Sienna Heights College, in Adrian, Michigan, and a Master's degree in Education from St. Louis University. Viola taught home economics at St. Joseph High School, Wapakoneta, as well as in Divine, TX. She worked at Van Wert County as a State Home Economics Agent. Thereafter, she was recruited by the University of Arizona, where she was an educator for the College of Agriculture as an Extension Economist. During the 30 years with that university, she worked as an Extension Economist for St. John’s Window Rock, Chinle, Holbrook, and Prescott, covering the Navajo, Hope, and Apache American Indian Reservations. Viola received the following awards: University of Arizona Outstanding Home Economist Award (1975); Outstanding Contributions to Home Economics by the Home Economists in Extension, University of Arizona (1987); Service in Public Education and Community Service from the Arthritis Foundation of Arizona (1993). Viola loved horses and dogs, especially teacup poodles. She was known for her generosity, sense of humor, hard work, and love of life. She truly enjoyed the 60 years in Arizona, as well as exploring many parts of the world. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Sun City, AZ. After retirement in 1993, she volunteered at the Society of St. Vincent DePaul, visiting the homes to assist people in need. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Sat. Jan. 15, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta, with Rev. Jedidiah Tritle officiating. Burial of her cremains will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Wapakoneta. The family will receive guests from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m., Sat. Jan. 15, 2022, at the Eley Funeral Home & Crematory, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta.
