E. Eileen Erb Briscoe

E. Eileen (Erb)Briscoe, 94, of Wapakoneta and formerly of Sidney, OH, passed away peacefully at 9:57 p.m., Wed. May 27, 2015, at Auglaize Acres with her family at her side. She was born Feb. 27, 1921, in Wapakoneta, the daughter of Oscar, Sr. and Helen (Langhorst) Erb. On Feb. 23, 1946, she married Wilbur C. Briscoe, and he preceded her in death on March 24, 2000. Survivors include a brother, Lewis (Helen) Erb, Sr., a sister, Alice (Don) Fischbach, both of Wapakoneta, and numerous nieces & nephews. In addition to her parents, Eileen was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Oscar Erb, Jr., Richard “Dick” Erb, and a sister-in-law, Genevieve Erb. Eileen was a 1940 graduate of Blume High School. She then worked at Erb Poultry and the Sidney Dairy. She would often reminisce about making ice cream. She was especially proud of the ice cream named “Neil’s Blue Moon” that she helped make in honor of Neil Armstrong’s moon landing. Over the years, Eileen spent much time with her husband at Lake Erie, Indian Lake, and volunteering in the state parks. After her husband’s passing, she moved back to Wapakoneta and volunteered at Centennial Elementary School. Eileen enjoyed planting and tending to her flowers, sitting in the sun, attending her high school class reunions every year, and the Wapakoneta Senior Citizens luncheons. She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Wapakoneta, and also enjoyed attending to her circle meetings at the church. Although she had no children, she had many nieces and nephews whom she adored and loved spending time with. She never turned down an invitation to spend time with her family. Eileen especially enjoyed all the time she spent with her great great nephews, Landon and Ethan Brandt. She always had a quarter and a piece of chocolate to share with them. She will always hold a special place in their hearts for the love she showed them. She loved attending and watching sporting events on television. She was an avid fan of the Wapakoneta Redskins, The Ohio State University Buckeyes, and the Cleveland Browns. Eileen was always young at heart and will be deeply missed by her family. The family would like to thank the staff at Auglaize Acres for the care they provided her these past 4 months. And also a special thank you to her neighbors at Defiance Commons who always checked in on her and friends who would taker her places. Eileen was grateful fro the kind neighbors and friends that helped her through the years. Funeral services will be 12:00 noon, Mon. June 1, 2015, at the Bayliff E Eley Funeral home and Cremation Services, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta, Pastor Becky Sunday officiating. Burial is to follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until time of service, Mon. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Paul United Church of Christ or the Activity Fund of Auglaize Acres.
