Harold John Epperson

Harold “John” Epperson, 85, of Wapakoneta, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 10:54 p.m. He was born to the late John L. & Edith K. (Severns) Epperson on May 5, 1938 in Lima, Ohio. On October 13, 1959, he married Ruth A. South, who preceded him in death. He is survived by a daughter, Vicki (Dustin) Clayton of Wapakoneta; a brother, Charles (Beverlee) Epperson of Lima, Ohio; five grandchildren: Ashley (Tommy) Endicott, Andrew and Katherine Clayton of Wapakoneta, Ohio; Zachary Closson of New Haven, Indiana; Allison (Clifford) Erb of St. Marys, Ohio; seven great-grandchildren: Haylie Warner, Laken Blanton, Julianna Endicott, Brinley Stein all of Wapakoneta, Ohio, Olivia Endicott of Hilliard, Ohio, Braeylan and Braxyn Erb of St. Marys, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews. John enjoyed playing golf, going on motorcycle rides and poker runs, coffee time with friends at Cloud 9 Café, Lucky Steer and the TA in Wapakoneta where he was a frequenter, spending time with family and friends, classic cars, horseshoe tournaments at the fairgrounds and bowling. He was also a Cleveland Browns and Indians fan. He loved his cats that soaked up every bit of his attention and love. He loved watching westerns and Clint Eastwood movies. He attended school in Lima, Ohio; then served in the United States Marine Corps. John retired from Scot Lad Foods (Roundy’s) in Lima after 37 years as a warehouseman. After retirement he was a self-proclaimed grandma and grandkid taxi driver which he thoroughly enjoyed. He will be dearly missed but forever remembered as a loving husband, father, son, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. The family will have visitation on Thursday, April 25th, from 5-8 p.m. and Friday, April 26th from 9:30-10:30 a.m., at the Eley Funeral Home Funeral & Crematory, 1102 Lincoln Hwy., Wapakoneta. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Fri. April 26, at the funeral home, with Chaplain Glory Geib officiating. Graveside services will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta, Ohio, where military rites will be conducted by the Wapakoneta V.F.W. Post #8445.
