Harry L. Minnich

Harry L. Minnich, 86, of Uniopolis, OH, died at 4:59 a.m. October 26, 2013, at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.He was born December 27, 1926 in Gutman, Ohio the son of Carl and Lylah (Hoover) Minnich, who preceded him in death. He graduated from Blume High School, Wapakoneta. On July 5, 1946, he married Helen Viola Morris. Harry is survived by his wife of 67 years, Helen, of Uniopolis; a son, Steven (Cheryl) Minnich of Kinston, NC; a daughter, Tamara (Doug) Strouth of Southbridge, MA; and a son-in-law, Russell Laird, Elida, OH. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Dustin (Elizabeth) Minnich, of Durham, NC; Sara Floyd, of Erie, Michigan; Amanda Laird, of Delphos, OH; and Douglas and Joseph Strouth, of Southbridge, MA; as well as his 6 great-grandchildren. Other survivors include 2 sisters, Ruth McLean, of Walled Lake, MI; Thelma Musser, of Wapakoneta, OH; and one brother, David Minnich, of Myrtle Beach, SC; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Kathie Laird; five sisters, Evelyn Minnich, Mary Catherine Eschmeyer, Edith Oakman, Philena Braun, Barbara Myers; and five brothers: Joseph, Donald, Robert, William, and James Minnich. Harry owned and operated Minnich TV & Radio throughout his life. He was employed by Neon Products in Lima, Ohio for 30 years and worked at City Tool and Die in Lima and Ada, Ohio for 15 years. He belonged to the Uniopolis Methodist Church, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles of Wapakoneta, and was member and Past Master of Hamer Lodge #167, F. & A.M., Wapakoneta. He volunteered for the Uniopolis Historical Society and the Uniopolis Fire Department (over 50 years), as well as The Boy Scouts for several years. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan. Harry enjoyed crafting with wood, growing vegetables, and nurturing flowers of all kinds. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Wed. Oct. 30, 2013, at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta, with the Pastor David Gordon officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m., Tues. at the funeral home. Burial is to follow in Fairmount Cemetery, near Uniopolis. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Uniopolis Volunteer Fire and Rescue.
