Jay Ryan Pitchford

Jay Ryan Pitchford, 58, of Wapakoneta, Ohio, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on August 2, 2026, at The Ohio State University Medical Center. Jay was born to Roy and Genevie “Jenny” Pitchford and spent most of his life in Wapakoneta, Ohio. He was employed by Globus Printing and Packaging in Minster, where he worked as a printing press operator. Jay was passionate about sports and was a devoted fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Cleveland Browns, The Cincinnati Reds, and the Cleveland Guardians. He was also a lifelong music lover who rarely passed up the chance to attend a concert. Among his favorite artists were Billy Strings, the Grateful Dead, and Phish. When he wasn't enjoying live music, playing video games, spending time with his many friends, or playing his beloved guitars, he could often be found on the golf course. Above all else, Jay's greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted father and grandfather who loved deeply and lived his life for his children and grandchildren. They were the center of his world and his greatest source of pride. Jay is survived by his children, Alexandria “Ali” Pitchford-Alspaugh (Jimmy), Ryan Pitchford, Katrina Pitchford, and his stepchildren, Danielle Carroll and Hunter Burden; his brother, Jerry Pitchford (Michelle); Paula Reams, mother of Allie; and Stephanie Pitchford, mother of Danielle, Hunter, and Katrina. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Maddux, Archer, and Harris Alspaugh; Paisely and Shepherd Richards; and Zakorey Jurosic Jr.; as well as his nephew, Ross Pitchford. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Genevie “Jenny” Pitchford, and his brother, Jeff Pitchford. Jay will be remembered for his quiet nature, his love of family, his passion for music and sports, and the many memories he created with those fortunate enough to know and love him. He will be deeply missed by so many. In keeping with Jay's final wishes, and in honor of the private life he valued, there will be no traditional funeral services. Instead, the family will celebrate his life on August 22, 2026, which would have been his 59th birthday. This will be held at the K of C of Wapakoneta from 2:00-6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that memorial contributions be made to the American Lung Association in Jay's honor, to support research and advocacy for those affected by lung disease.
