John J. "Joe" Miller

John J. “Joe” Miller, 60, of Wapakoneta, died 10:00 p.m., Sat. March 13, 2010, at the St. Rita’s Medical Center. He was born May 18, 1949, in Wapakoneta, the son of George & Betty (Moran) Miller, who preceded him in death. On Sept. 18, 1969, he married Janet Sue Baumer, and she survives. He lived and raised his 3 children in the home where he was born. His 3 children include, sons, Rodney (Darla) Miller, New Knoxville, Jeff (Donna) Miller, Wapakoneta, Chad (Michelle) Miller, St. Marys. He was the “Best Grandpa in the World” to Ashlyn, Ryan, Dillon, Caleb, & Aubrey. Other family members include, 5 brothers, Mike (Mary) Miller, Botkins, Bill (Shery) Miller, Wapakoneta, Nick (Deb) Miller, New Bremen, Rich (Beth) Miller, Uniopolis, Roger (Jody) Miller, Buckland, a sister, Mary (John) McAlpine, Ponte Vedra, FL, 5 sisters-in-law and brothers-in-laws, Barb Baumer, New Bremen, Mary Lou Topp, Botkins, Diane (Ron) Aufderhaar, Botkins, Tom (Rita) Baumer, Wapakoneta, Ted (Sue) Baumer, Wapakoneta. Joe worked at ODOT District 7 for 30 years until he retired on May 31, 1997. He was currently employed at RAM / Brookside Trucking, Lima. He was a member and usher at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta. His other memberships included the American Legion Post #330, and the Knights of Columbus Council 1272, both of Wapakoneta. He served as Grand Knight from 1992 to 1994 and was named Knight of the Year & Family of the Year in 1997. A 1967 graduate of St. Joseph High School, Wapakoneta, he served with U.S. Army in the Vietnam War. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed gardening, vacationing, and driving his dump truck. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Wed. March 17, 2010, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta, Rev. Patrick Sloneker officiating. Burial is to follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Wapakoneta, where military rites will be conducted by the Wapakoneta V.F.W. The family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m., Tues. at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta. Memorials may be directed to the God’s Store House or the Cancer Association of Auglaize County.
