Joyce B. Sims

Joyce Burden Sims, 80, of Wapakoneta, died 1:34 p.m., Thursday, November 14, 2024, at the St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima, Ohio, surrounded by her loving family. She was born January 24, 1944, in Wapakoneta, Ohio, the daughter of Eugene “Jim” & Irene (Wallace) Burden, who preceded her in death. She married Jerry Sims, the love of her life on May 21, 1960, at the Bethlehem Christian Union Church, by Carl Miller, and he preceded her in death on July 14, 2019. Survivors include, 3 children, Vince (Amy) Sims, Winston, GA, Rod (Lara) Sims, Piqua, OH, Monica “Dee” Montgomery, Wapakoneta, 10 grandchildren, Aaron Sims, Brent Sims, Cory (Melody) Sims, Austin (Emma) Sims, Kyler (Stephanie) Ashton, Rebecca (Frank) Castillo, Bailey Clark, Tasha (Richard Simmons) Ulrich, Norah Smith, Megan (Danny) Dailey, 18 great grandchildren, Kaylee, Hunter, Karessa, Heath, Chance, Dylinn, Penny, Ember, Mykah, Windolynn, Roman, Addie, Seth, Bella, Ian, Mateo, Leo, & Lidia, brother and sister-in-laws, Frank Rostorfer, Wapakoneta, Daniel Sims, Columbus, Jean-Clare (Friedl) Bohm, Columbus, many nieces and nephews, She was preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Kermit & Nellie Ruth Sims; siblings and spouse, Jim (Linda) Burden, Debra Rostorfer, Gloria Rowe, & Linda Stolzenburg; and sisters-in-law, Melanie Sims & Vicki Sims. A homemaker, Joyce was a member of the Harvest Baptist Church and the Wapakoneta Eagles Aux. #691. She loved to cross stitch, winning numerous ribbons at the Auglaize County Fair. Joyce loved spending time with family and would crochet baby blankets for new born grandchildren in the family. She enjoyed watching The Ohio State Buckeyes, the Cleveland Browns, and the Wapakoneta Redskins wrestling and football teams. Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m., Monday, November 18, 2024, at the Harvest Baptist Church, Wapakoneta, Pastor Gary Bragg officiating. Burial will follow in the Buckland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Monday, at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Sluggers Little League of New Bremen.
