Patricia Marie Knippen

Patricia Marie Knippen, a deeply loved wife, mother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on March 22, 2025, at the age of 65 years old. Pat was born June 21, 1959, in Lima, Ohio to parents John Madigan Jr. and Luella Madigan (Miller). Pat was the middle child to older sister, Elizabeth Emelko (Madigan), and younger brother, Michael Madigan. Pat was married to Roger “Joe” Knippen for 42 years, and together they created a beautiful life and raised their triplets: Ashley Knippen, Courtney Knippen, and James “Jim” Knippen. Pat was an unbelievable mother and role model. She never missed any of her children’s appointments, activities, or milestones, making sure they always felt supported and celebrated. Pat’s children were her pride and joy, and she loved them unconditionally. Pat dedicated her life to making sure they were kind, compassionate, and thoughtful people. They are her greatest accomplishment. Throughout her life, Pat cared not only for her family and children but for countless others. She graduated from Bowling Green State University and began her career as a social worker. For 30 years, Pat worked at Auglaize County Children Services, where she was a fierce protector of vulnerable children and families. She was a trailblazer in her field, and retired as an Administrator of Auglaize County. Shortly thereafter, Pat came out of retirement and continued her work as the Assistant Director of Hardin County Children Services and later transitioned to a Special Victims’ Advocate and Investigator for the Hardin County Prosecutor’s Office. Pat made an immeasurable impact in the lives of so many, inspiring some to even name their children in her honor. Outside of work, Pat was considered a “Hero for Babies” by the American Red Cross because she regularly donated her blood that was universal and safe for newborns needing blood transfusions. Pat was exceptional in so many ways and always shared her gifts with others. After retirement, Pat hoped to travel and visit her children, volunteer at the NICU to relieve parents who needed a break, and to walk dogs at the Auglaize Humane Society because she couldn’t take them all home. However, Pat was diagnosed with Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) a rare, incurable, and cruel disease. A diagnosis that would lead many into despair, Pat remained steadfast in her joy, kindness, and care for others. Pat is survived by her husband, children, siblings, uncles, aunts, cousins, and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed beyond what words have the ability to convey. Pat’s celebration of life will take place on Saturday, March 29, 2025, from 10am to 1pm at Eley Funeral Home and Crematory, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta.
