Our History
On March of 1988, Mr. Thomas Bayliff and Dick Eley formed the Bayliff and Eley partnership, for the purpose of acquiring the businesses and properties of the Charles D. Siferd Funeral Home and the Patrick Heinl Funeral Home, both of Wapakoneta.
The Charles D. Siferd Funeral Home was established before the turn of the century by Charlie's grandfather, D.A. Siferd, Jr. The funeral home was originally located in the business district on Auglaize St. The business and property was purchased in April of 1988 from Charles and Lois Ann Siferd. The Siferd Funeral Home property was sold and is being used as a private family residence.
The Patrick Heinl Funeral Home was established in 1976 by Patrick and Joyce Heinl. The property was built as a funeral home, all on one level for wheel chair accessibility and a large parking lot adjacent to the building. After Patrick's untimely death, the business and property was purchased from Joyce Heinl in April of 1988. This property is located at 1102 Lincoln Ave., Wapakoneta, and is being used as the funeral home and home office of the Bayliff and Eley Funeral Home.
The Long and Folk Funeral Home, Wapakoneta Chapel, was also established before the turn of the century as the Heinl and Yocum Furniture Store and was located on E. Auglaize St., Wapakoneta. It later became the Heinl and Van Dyke Furniture Store and Undertaking Co. It then became the Heinl and Swonguer Furniture Dealers and Undertakers, and still later the Heinl Funeral Home. The funeral home was moved to its present location in 1939, and eventually was named the Heinl and Son Funeral Home. In 1972, the funeral home was sold to the Long and Folk Funeral Home, St. Marys. In July of 2001, the business and property was purchased and is still in business as the Long and Folk Chapel of the Bayliff and Eley Funeral Home.
